Hemodialysis Technician
Program Objective
The Hemodialysis Technician Program prepares students with the knowledge and hands-on training required for entry level dialysis technician employment. Graduates of this program are eligible to apply for the Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician examinations with the following nationally recognized organizations The Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC), and the Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing Technology (BONENT)The Hemodialysis Technician Program prepares students with the knowledge and hands-on training required for entry level dialysis technician employment. Program Description
The program provides 600 hours of training to students in all of the relevant areas of education and practice required for a Hemodialysis Technician. Completers of the program will be able to recognize and utilize about medical terminology; anatomy and physiology; legal and ethical responsibilities; infection control procedures; blood borne diseases, including HIV/AIDS; professional, communication and interpersonal skills specific to the dialysis setting; identify of normal and abnormal anatomic structure and function of body systems in relation to services performed by a Hemodialysis Technician; practice infection control following universal precautions; recognize and demonstrate knowledge of how to utilize equipment and supplies specific to dialysis; demonstrate skills and knowledge necessary to perform dialysis technician duties; practice accepted procedures of transporting specimens; practice quality assurance and safety; demonstrate emergency planning and response.
This program is offered in two modalities for the convenience of students: onsite and hybrid.
Onsite Modality
Students receive all instruction at the school’s campus.
Hybrid Modality
Students enrolling in the hybrid modality will complete online work weekly and attend classes on-campus three days a week. Online weekly work consists of assigned theory instruction and activities for the week to be completed through the learning platform. On-campus weekly activities include theory review and laboratory hands—on practice depending on the courses taught each week. Diverse Training Center online learning is provided on an asynchronous modality, which means students have the flexibility to complete the online assignments in a self-paced manner as long as they are submitted by the weekly submission deadline. With this modality, students complete their work and connect with instructors and peers on their own schedule. Asynchronous learning gives an opportunity to working students to study without while attending to their employment responsibilities.
EXTERNSHIP
The program includes an externship of 120 hours where students have the opportunity to work under supervision in real world situations.
CREDENTIAL AWARDED
Upon successful completion of the program students receive a diploma.
DURATION
This program has a duration of 600 hours. Full time students complete the program in 24 weeks.
